Voice of Recovery will be telling their story of helping those with addiction overcome their struggle through poetry and music. Following is an extract from their Facebook page: “Voice of Recovery are a singing group of people in recovery from addiction. Some of them met through a rehab centre in Newry, Co Down, through a series of singing workshops that were initiated by the Arts Council Northern Ireland. Their performances are deeply moving, and they tell the story of addiction to recovery through the creative arts of poetry, music and composition. They are a committed group of people who have found their victory song and their musical voice encourages others who struggle with addiction to do the same. Their Musical Director is Sheila Smyth from The Right Key CIC. Sheila is a composer, musician and music teacher. Voice of Recovery have performed at health conferences, theatres and concert halls both at home, Belfast, London, Cardiff and Astros in Greece. They have been instrumental in challenging the stigma of addiction within the UK. Their story encourages others to move from weakness into strength. Their courage in going public with their recovery, has made them true heroes, and earned them respect at every performance. They give people hope, that they too can be free from the prison of addiction.”
